EXPERTISE

Imagescape Design Studios is proud of its contribution to Australian community development with our more than fifteen years experience and numerous successful projects completed.

Over this time community buildings have been changing and evolving to met new cultural needs. Environmental sensitivity is now essential and is the creation of a flexible space responsive to the expanding aspirations of the community.

We believe that community buildings form a significant and integral part of our society, building social infrastructure and a cohesive community. We always try to identify local values and reflect them into our projects through our services of master planning, architecture, interiors and landscape architecture.

To achieve this we are fortunate to have the services of Lois Besnard in our community studio. Lois has over 20 years experience as a professional manager in local government and for a significant period of this time was responsible for planning and developing a range of social facilities (including community, cultural and recreational facilities) to meet local community needs. Lois also managed the day-to-day operations of over 65 community and cultural facilities.

The Flinders Child and Family Centre is located in one of the newer suburbs of Shellcove. Our client, Shellharbour City Council undertook the development and building of this facility while the residential building for the area was being carried out. Community Consultation was therefore in interesting exercise as we worked closely with Urban Planners and Council’s Community Officers to design a building, which would suit the ‘best fit’ model while being flexible to allow itself to adapt to a developing community.

The facility consists of a Hall seating up to 80 people, an activity room allowing for crafts and ceramics for up to 30 people, playroom for up to 30 children, Kitchen and BBQ facilities.
Now that the suburb has ‘grown’ around the Family Centre, the facility offers services such as:

• The Early Childhood Clinic
• Shellharbour/Flinders After School Care
• “Too Cool for School” Program

Imagescape principal Christine Kelly was responsible for the design of this child care centre back in 1993. The centre was constructed as an integral part of a planned housing estate on the south coast of New South Wales.

The new owner has returned to Imagescape Design Studios to expand the services provided by the centre. The centre currently accommodates sixty children aged 0 to 6. Planned expansion will provide for an additional 25 children aged 2 to 6. Additionally a out of school hours care facility will be built adjacent to the main child care centre.

The design of the alterations as well as the new building is to build on what is already a very popular centre. One that is often cited by authorities as an example to other operators.
